![]() ![]() Which tells me that all pac dot eating sounds on the game use just one sound. And there's only one sound file used for Pac-Man eating dots. The programmers happened to have added a little section on the title screen where you can look through all the sound files. I should note one last thing: I own a copy of Namco library for the DS, which emulates 9 Namco games (including Pac-Man). Did they speed up the sound files to match Pac-man's speed? Or did they space them apart differently depending on how fast he's going? Or was it a combination of the two? And furthermore, if they did speed up the sound file, did they also have to lower the pitch to compensate? Or was it a small enough change to not be noticeable? ![]() I don't know how they did it in the original arcade version. By contrast, on emulations I've played of Pac-Man, it appears that no matter how fast you move, you always hear the entire waka, it never cuts off unless you stop eating dots. Each consecutive waka will interrupt the last, and it just sounds like a mess. As a result, when Pac-Man goes fast, he picks up pac dots fast, and my program sounds like garbage. Pac-Man moves at a different speed every level, and also speeds up when he eats a power pellet (before slowing down when it wears off). Even when you change speeds, there's still a consistent 2:1 ratio between pac dots and wakas.īut that's the problem: you change speeds. That seems to be how it's implemented in the original arcade game. ![]() So, the way I have it implemented, every time I pick up a pac dot, either the first or second half of the "waka" sound file will play. But, I still need to work on the sound design, specifically for Pac-man's "waka" sound, and I was wondering if any of you could help. And, so far, things are working pretty well. Okay, so, I've been writing code to simulate the original arcade version of Pac-Man. Even though pacman's speed varies, you always hear the full sound. TLDR: In the original 1980 Pac-Man, every time you eat 2 dots, you hear an entire "waka" sound. ![]()
